Bobo, Catarino, Marco Octavio, Mauricinho and Rodrigo star as we spotlight the statistics behind Brazil’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Seychelles 2025 triumph.
70
Marco Octavio became the first coach in his 70s to conquer a FIFA competition. He turned 70 in March. When they met in the semi-finals, Marco and Portugal’s Mario Narciso, 71, boasted the oldest combined age of two coaches facing one another in the history of any FIFA tournament: 141 years.
36
Rodrigo struck seven times in the Seychelles to go eighth on the list of leading marksmen in FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup history. The 31-year-old Brazil No9 has 36 goals in 29 appearances in the competition. Rodrigo trails only Andre (38 goals), Alan (38), Bruno Malias (39), Belchior (39), Gabriele Gori (41), Dejan Stankovic (47) and Madjer (88).
30
Catarino and Mauricinho reached 30 appearances in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. The only Brazilians with more are Buru (32), Betinho (33), Benjamin (34), Andre (35), Bruno Malias (37) and Mao (52).
12
Brazil have won 12 straight FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup games since a 5-4 defeat by Senegal in the 2021 quarter-finals. Only Russia (14 matches from 2011-15) and Brazil (30 from 2005-11) have gone on longer unbeaten runs.
8
Brazil set a new record for the fewest goals conceded by a title-winning team. Thanks to goalkeepers Bobo and Teleco, and herculean defensive performances from the likes of Antonio, Catarino, Filipe, Lucao and Thanger, the Seleção leaked only eight goals in six games. The record had belonged to Italy, who let in 11 goals in five matches en route to success at Rio de Janeiro 2005.
7
Brazil have amazingly won seven out of 13 editions of this tournament. Russia and Portugal, three- and two-time winners, are the only other nations with multiple titles.
6
Brazil scored six goals without reply against Spain to equal the record for the biggest shutout victory in a knockout game at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. Mauricinho inspired a 6-0 win over Tahiti in the 2017 final.
3
Bobo repelled an attempt from Italy’s Alessandro Remedi’s to become the first goalkeeper to save the first three penalties he faced in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. He had denied Portugal’s Be Martins and Abdulrahman Al Fazari of Oman in 2024.
2
Rodrigo became the first player to be named Player of the Match in two finals. The 31-year-old hit a hat-trick in 6-4 fightback victory over Italy in 2024, and bagged a brace, including a late winner, in a 4-3 win over Belarus on Mahé Island.
